A task turns into an adventure.

Starts out with Yellow bus ride to Paynes Bay, we prefer the Yellow private busses, yes loud music but they stop for you and let you off at your destination not the bus stop and you don't have to keep guessing if you are there yet!

Seaside Government controlled fish market open from 7am to 7 pm, we arrived t 10:20 am - no fish in yet, walked around a bit still not in, we were forced to have a beer at a small roadside bar. 11:40 fish are in. Woman in front of us starts conversation with us and then tells us to go first. We ordered about 6 servings of filleted dolphin fish also called Mahi Mahi or Dorado. Head back to get the bus home and decided to stop at the Roti Hut we had passed by during our wait. Bought a couple of chicken Roti for lunch. Flagged down a Yellow bus, got off in Holetown and walked the 2 blocks up the hill to home - total adventure time 2:30 hrs. Worth every minute, cause we got our fresh fish!

This is just crazy!!
Think about this "island yacht", and make sure I should be invited to its inaugural sailing...

Yes you read it right, a whole amazing island built right on a beautiful yacht. Created by UK-based yacht design company Yacht Island Designs, bringing a whole island onto a yacht.

The design as you can see is inspired by tropical islands, with huts, a pool and to top of that, a whole volcano that is sure not to erupt. Since this is a yacht, it comes packed with special VIP rooms, arcades, gym, lounges, spas and even a helipad. The volcano adds a lot of beauty to the whole look of the yacht, it also happens to have water flowing out of it onto the pool creating this amazing river complementing the whole tropical look.

The back of the yacht has a retractable beach deck where structures float on the sea making the sea accessible to swim in and of course grant access to various water activities such as wake boarding and jet-skis. PM Harper claims that this election is all about the economy. It’s not. The economic record speaks for itself. It was a Liberal government brought in surplus after surplus & managed the economy extremely well.
This election is about a government that is secretive, controlling & disingenuous, using the Politics of Fear in simplistic slogans like “Hug a thug” to garner votes. Most importantly is this government’s total contempt and disrespect of the basic tenants of our democratic processes. Busy Day on the Ice

Last week when it rained, the lake was left looking like a gaint rink - smooth ice everywhere. then the Temperature dropped back down to -5 C and there was a like snow fall (less than 2 inches). All it took for a neighbour to build a rink was 1/2 hr with a snowblower. Let the game begin. In background Ice fishing - only 2 year since made legal on our lake.

6 Days to go: Flying down Feb 13th on Air Canada for a 6 week stay.

Staying at Casa De Leo in Holetown, St. James on the west coast for first 11 days.

Then off for 2 day to the New Edgewater Hotel on the East coast, followed by 2 days at the Peach & Quiet (great name) on the South West coast just in time for the Friday night Oistin fish fry.

We then head back to Casa De Leo for our last 4 weeks.

Monday, on my way back to Peterborough from the airport and downtown Toronto, I was on the Don Valley Parkway to the 401 and noticed emergency vehicles on the overpasses. I knew of the special security measures at the airport and wondered if there was some other issue that I was not aware of.

While driving east on the 401 east every overpass had emergency vehicles with their lights flashing. Glancing in my rearview mirror, I saw people on all the overpasses with Canadian flags and banners. I then remembered that the latest causality of the war in Afghanistan, Lt. Andrew Nuttall, 30, of Prince Rupert, B.C was being flown into Trenton. I was on the High way of Heroes.

There would be a procession taking him to Toronto from Trenton. All these people had come out in the cold winter weather to honour him. As I saw the procession coming towards me in the westbound lanes, by coincidence or design, the traffic I was in, heading east slowed down to 10 km, no one was cutting in an out, no one was in a hurry anymore. The procession, taking up all 3 lanes of the 401 westbound, was lead by 2 police cars, followed by the hearse, 2 stretch limos and more police cars. It was a very poignant moment. I felt fortunate to witness the event.

The body of the latest Canadian soldier to die in Afghanistan arrived at Canadian Forces Base Trenton in eastern Ontario on Monday.
Lt. Andrew Nuttall, 30, of Prince Rupert, B.C., was killed Wednesday by a roadside bomb during a routine foot patrol in the Panjwaii district of southern Afghanistan.
Dignitaries on hand to pay their respects included Governor General Michaëlle Jean, Defence Minister Peter MacKay and Gen. Walt Natynczyk, the chief of defence staff.
About 60 people attended the repatriation ceremony, including Nuttall's parents, Richard and Jane Nuttall, who flew from Victoria. The family plans to hold a funeral at a later date in Victoria.
Nuttall was a member of 1st Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, based in Edmonton.
The blast that killed him and an Afghan soldier marked a sudden end to a period of relative calm in the wake of Afghanistan's traditional fighting season.
Since 2002, the Afghanistan mission has claimed the lives of 134 Canadian soldiers and one diplomat.

Heading to Fort Myers, Florida Day 4

Since we were heading to Inverness Fla (north of Tampa) to visit with my Aunt Bette and Dick we decided to leave an hour early. That extra time evaporated early as we were re-routed off hi way 95 due to an accident. The 10 mile detour took over an hour.

Dinner with Bette & Dick at Outback - Great Steaks, Went back to their place where Bette gave me an art piece she had done for McDonnell Douglas back in early 70's when I worked there. What an amazing connection!

Dick gave me a book on power boating - he and I always swap pics of great boats and planes.

On Dick's request I had obtained and gave him a Canadian "Support our troops" car ribbon for Bette.

We plan to meet up again for breakfast before we leave for Ft. Myers.

So great to spend some time with them.

Observations while driving the past 4 days:

1) Mercedes, BMW & Cadillac all have the same design flaw - their signal lights don't work!

2) Majority of cars all the way south were Toyota, Honda, Hyundai with GM Ford and Chrysler in the minority except for SUV's and pickups.

3) Just like in Ontario, the closer one gets to the bigger cities, the faster and more agrssive is the driving.

4) When the speed limits is 60 (97 km) the flow runs at 70 - 75 (113-121 km)

West Virginia to St George SC - The mountains in WV and Virgina are spectacular as is going through the 2 tunnels!

After that juts a lot of highway driving through to 95 on the east coast.

Once again we were told rain and instead enjoyed blue shy top down weather. Had another picnic lunch at a highway rest stop - very nice again.

Stayed at a Quality in with out door pool - really felt the change in both temperature and humidity from up in the mountains. Had drinks by the pool and dinner at a mexican restaurant.

An other great day for Miata top down driving, Lots of road work going on - often down to 1 lane.

Another picnic at one of America's great rest areas. It took an extra hour to get to Princeton WV due to the road work but in all the drive was great.

Staying tonight at a Days Inn and found a picnic table out by the pool to relax and plan tomorrow's part of the trip.

Dinner at Applebees (sp) not that great.

Looks like the bad weather is just off a bit, might make it to St. George SC tomorrow night before the rain starts.

Notice a lot of road kill on the hi ways the last 2 days,including a lot of deer.

Also noticed how many cars were NOT from the big Detroit 3! Mostly Toyota's and Honda's , 3rd was Nissan. Very much like Ontario.

First day done, uneventful. Bright blue sky the whole way - A perfect top down day.

Picnic lunch in the Duty Free parking lot - egg salad sandwiches yum yum.

Border was easy, couple of standard questions and "have a good day"

Stayed in Grove City PA at the Comfort Inn, a king bed and a jacuzzi. Nice!

Walked over to the Elephant & Castle, drinks on the patio and then dinner.

Fringe was on last night "Hello Mr. Spock - whoops I mean William Bell!"

Heading for Princeton, West Virginia today. Cloudy today and looks like rainy weather ahead through until Sunday.

So as a society what are we going to do about it? We better do something soon or they won’t play.

We can:
Make it all more secure – nope, the hackers will always be just one step behind.
Understand that what we say/do is out there - on the record everywhere, all the time.

Maybe this is the real road to true transparency in government, business and community.

64 Billion deficit over 2 years

First let me say I do agree that this time around there has to be government lead stimulus and it has to happen sooner than later.

My real worry is that it will happen too late to have any real impact. Governments typically seem too slow getting the money out on time and when & where it's actually need. They tend to target areas that will get them re elected.

Second, I am not in the neo-conservative camp, but I understand where they come from.

I’m having major issues with Harper, a known neo-con, from the Calgary School who all of a sudden becomes a BIG spender.

From never a deficit to – major deficit
From …. You get my drift. There is something fishy here. I can’t connect the dots.

I think there is a really BIG lie happing here.

Old phrases like ”Can a leopard change it's spots” and “A wolf in sheep's clothing” come to mind.

It's all causing me to worry more than usual.

Stimulus – A word we keep hearing lately

I heard or read of this recently and I think it’s a great idea.

Instead of a tax cuts or rebate cheques – a “Government prepaid credit card”

I remember receiving a $50 prepaid gas company card when I purchased new tires a
few years back. I gave the card to my daughter who bought gas with it. I thought
at the time – What a great idea!

Back to the “Government prepaid credit card”. If a company can do it so can our government.

Those who receive the card would use it to buy goods and services, not just leaving the dollars in their bank account. Thus the money would go round and round!

There would have to be some safe guards, such as no cash advances and valid only in Canada and the acceptance that a small percentage of cards will be traded for cash.

In the end all will be used to make purchases in our local communities.

I feel like the only way out of this for Canada (at the moment) is to have a solution where all parties can save face and claim to be winners.

A resolution to the current issue in Canadian Parliament:

1. Harper admits errors and offers an apology to the opposition and Canada.
2. Harper and ALL of his PMO staff resign.
3. Conservatives replace their leader with someone who is more of a centralist and more inclusive.
4. Conservatives negotiate with the opposition, agreeing to truly have input from the opposition parties in creating future policy and programs.
5. Amend the Fiscal Update to include enough of the opposition’s stimulus plan to gain their support.
6. No Non confidence vote.
7. Session comes to an end.
8. Everyone heads home.
9. Everyone wins. (for a while)

the practice, especially in international relations, of taking a dispute to the verge of conflict in the hope of forcing the opposition to make concessions

My take on the strategy that will be used by the Conservatives in it's next steps to oppositions coalition plans:

a) Stall for time - DONE Friday Nov 28th - Postponed vote to Dec 8th
b) Negative talking points about opposition - DONE Saturday am Nov 29th.
c) Cancel the plan to eliminate political party subsidies - DONE Saturday pm Nov 29th.
d) Add a stimulus to the economic statement, just enough to get opposition support – EXPECT first one by Monday Dec 1st. followed by others through to Thursday Dec 4th.

I really don't get it. We already have laws in place for dangerous / careless driving.

We are in transition with all these devices and once they become normalized will no longer be a factor. What is really needed is to educate drivers in the proper use of technology while driving.
There are segments of the driving population that have been using various devices for a long time. Truck drivers with their CB's, police and taxis with their radio dispatch and lately Police with computers sitting beside them in the front seat.
The rational is: "These folks are professionals and they know what they are doing" ok then teach everyone else what they know, don't create more laws.

I can just see a court session:
Cop: "I viewed the driver with a hand held device."
Driver: "It was a coffee cup"
Case dismissed.

I have a hand held GPS device, (if you saw the size of my Miata you would know why it's a hand held unit) that has been a benefit and not a detraction, allowing me to know where I'm going in a strange city or how to get back on a highway that we had to exit from with out planning to. We all know how distracted we get when we are LOST!!

Most of the time the GPS unit is fixed to my windscreen with the supplied suction cup mounting device. Looks like this would not be acceptable under the new legislation as the current wording is "Global positioning systems will be allowed, as long as they're properly secured to the dashboard."

Guess I'll have to get out the crazy glue!!

Transportation Minister Jim Bradley's new legislation calls for a ban on the use of hand-held devices to talk, e-mail or send text messages while driving.

My first motorcycle a 1943 Norton 500, purchase in New Brunswick in 1965 was same make & model as the one that Steve McQueen drove in the movie. The guy I bought it from made me jump a ditch and take it into a wall tires first before he would let me buy it! It was a lesson that saved me from major injuries years later in an accident when a car turned in front of me.

Oil is below $70 US (15 month low)
Canadian dollar is back down to 80 cents - haven't seen that since July 2005!

My Summary: Both "Steves" lost last night. Stephen Harper did not achieve a Majority & Stephane Dion lost 19 seats. So, according to Harper it's back to a "dysfunctional" minority Parliament.

What a waste of time and money. Our time, our money!

The Liberals will now start planning a Leadership review and finding a replacement for Dion.

Here in the Peterborough Ontario Riding there was supposedly strategic voting (that's code for NDP and Green party followers to vote Liberal). The only strategic voting I see here was a shift of 10,000 Votes. 5000 did not vote and the other 5000 shifted to the Conservatives.

Conservatives up 5000
Liberals down 2100
NDP down 8100
Green up 800
DID NOT VOTE up 5000

The Peterborough Federal Liberals will now start planning a Nomination process to replace McGregor.

Today while listening to PM Stephen Harper talk to Peter Mansbridge on CBC, I was reminded of the famous Jean Chretien Quote about a proof is a proof.

Change the word proof to plan for the PM's comments about his plan and it pretty well sums it up.

It would go something like this:

A plan is a plan. What kind of a plan? It's a plan. A plan is a plan. And when you have a good plan, it's because it's been planned.

Paradisus, Holguin, Cuba March 30th to April 6th 2008

Wow - looks like we now have "2 Cuban Cottages", Sandals in Varadero and the Melia Paradisus at the east end of the island in the Holguin region. This resort is incredible. The place, the staff & the people we met made it all feel like a week in wonderland - Jane convinced me to do a Spa day - my first time, the massage was ok, but the steam room was my favourite.

The stay was made even better by meeting up with Sandals friends Darren & Annette and new Paradisus friends Brent & Becky.

We will return!
